Top 10 Foods That Actually Support Men’s Hormone Health

No food raises testosterone the way a prescription does. What food does is remove the things suppressing it: low micronutrient status, poor blood sugar control, and excess body fat. These ten do that job, and most of them grow here.

  1. Eggs, yolks included. Testosterone is built from cholesterol. Yolks also carry vitamin D and choline. Decades of yolk avoidance was a mistake for most men.
  2. Oysters and Dungeness crab. Oysters are the densest zinc source there is. In a small study, men made deliberately zinc deficient saw testosterone fall sharply, and marginally deficient older men saw it roughly double on supplementation. Note the word deficient: this is evidence for fixing a shortfall, not for loading zinc if your levels are already fine.
  3. Wild salmon. Vitamin D, omega-3s, and protein in one item. Pacific salmon is one of the few dietary vitamin D sources that matters at this latitude.
  4. Beef, including the fatty cuts. Zinc, heme iron, creatine, and complete protein. Lean-only cutting removes the fat-soluble vitamins that come with it.
  5. Brazil nuts. Two per day covers selenium, which supports thyroid hormone conversion and sperm quality. Stop at two or three. A single nut can carry 68 to 91 micrograms and the tolerable upper limit for adults is 400 micrograms a day, so a casual handful can put you over it.
  6. Olive oil. One of the few oils with any human trial data on androgens. In a 60-man study in Morocco, three weeks of extra virgin olive oil raised testosterone about 17 percent and LH about 43 percent. Small, short, and never replicated, so treat it as a reason to cook with olive oil rather than a proven intervention.
  7. Leafy greens. Magnesium, which most men do not get enough of and which is depleted further by heavy training and alcohol.
  8. Greek yogurt or kefir. Protein plus fermented dairy. Useful for gut health and easy to hit a protein target with.
  9. Oregon berries. Marionberries, blueberries, and blackberries. Low sugar load, high polyphenol content, and free in August if you know a fence line.
  10. Pumpkin seeds. Zinc and magnesium together in a form you will actually snack on.

What matters more than any of the ten

Total protein and body fat. Aim for roughly 0.7 to 1 gram of protein per pound of goal bodyweight, and understand that fat tissue runs an enzyme called aromatase that converts testosterone into estradiol. A meta-analysis found that weight loss reverses obesity-associated low testosterone, and that the more weight came off, the more testosterone came back. Losing fifteen pounds does more for a man’s hormone panel than any grocery list, this one included.

And what to cut

Alcohol first. Then the liquid calories. Neither is a scare story, both are just where the easiest wins are.
